Employee Relations. At December 31, 2000, the Company had 447 full-time employees, of whom 395 were employed by Akorn and 52 by its wholly owned subsidiary, Akorn New Jersey ; , Inc. The marketing and manufacturing of pharmaceutical products is highly competitive, with many established manufacturers, suppliers and distributors actively engaged in all phases of the business. Most of the Company's competitors have substantially greater financial and other resources, including greater sales volume, larger sales forces and greater manufacturing capacity. See "Item 7. The companies that compete with the ophthalmic segment include Alcon Laboratories, Inc., Allergan Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Ciba Vision and Bausch & Lomb, Inc. "B&L" ; . The ophthalmic segment competes primarily on the basis of price and service. The ophthalmic segment purchases some ophthalmic products from Steris Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and B&L, who are in direct competition with the Company in several markets. The companies that compete with the injectable segment include both generic and name brand companies such as Abbott Labs, Gensia, Marsam, Steris, Elkin Sinn and American Regent. The injectable segment competes primarily on the basis of price. Competitors in the contract manufacturing business include Cook Imaging, Chesapeake Biological Laboratories, Ben Venue and Oread Laboratories. The manufacturing of sterile products must be performed under government mandated Good Manufacturing Practices. Suppliers and Customers. No supplier of products accounted for more than 10% of the Company's sales in either segment during 2000, 1999 or 1998. The Company requires a supply of quality raw materials and components to manufacture and package pharmaceutical products for itself and for third parties with which it has contracted. The principal components of the Company's products are active and inactive pharmaceutical ingredients and certain packaging materials. Many of these components are available from only a single source and, in many of the Company's ANDAs and NDAs, only one supplier of raw materials has been identified. See "Item 7. Management's Discussion and Analysis of Financial Condition and Results of Operations -- Factors That May Effect Future Results -- Dependence on Supply of Raw Materials and Components". During 2000, the Company realized approximately 12% of its net sales from one customer. This customer is a distributor of the Company's products as well as a distributor of a broad range of health care products for many companies in the health care sector. This customer is not the end user of the Company's products. If sales to this customer were to diminish or cease, the Company believes that the end users of its products would find no difficulty obtaining the Company's products either directly from the Company or from another distributor. The accounts receivable balance for this customer was approximately 22% of gross accounts receivable. No single customer accounted for more than 10% of the Company's sales in either segment during 1999 or 1998. Government Regulation. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors are subject to extensive regulation by government agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration "FDA" ; , the Drug Enforcement Agency "DEA" ; , the Federal Trade Commission "FTC" ; and other federal, state and local agencies. The federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act the "FDA Act" ; , the Controlled Substance Act and other federal statutes and regulations govern or influence the development, testing, manufacture, labeling, storage and promotion of products. The FDA inspects drug manufacturers and storage facilities to determine compliance with its Good Manufacturing Practice regulations, non-compliance with which can result in fines, recall and seizure of products, total or partial suspension of production, refusal to approve new drug applications and criminal prosecution. The FDA also has the authority to revoke approval of drug products. With certain exceptions, FDA approval is required before any drug can be manufactured and marketed. New drugs require the filing of an NDA, including clinical studies demonstrating the safety and efficacy of the drug. Generic drugs, which are equivalents of existing brand name drugs, require the filing of an ANDA, 5, for instance, dizziness. All reported events are included except those already listed in table iii and those events for which a drug cause was remote. For all food additives, including nonnutritive sweeteners, the fda determines an acceptable daily intake adi ; , which is defined as the amount of a food additive that can be safely consumed on a daily basis over a person's lifetime without any adverse effects and includes a 100-fold safety factor, for example, fda. The results are summarised in Table 1. Control subjects all detected no flavour after tasting distilled water but all perceived the bitter and the acidic flavours. Oral burning provoked by pepper sauce tabasco ; is reduced after the administration of saccharose to the back of the tongue in 32 65% ; and abolition in 3 5% ; of the 50 controls. The study group had different reactions. In 19 38% ; the use of distilled water evoked a phantom-taste bitter and or metal taste ; . When tested with the bitter substance, 30 patients 60% ; reported ageusia, 12 of these 24% ; declared hypogeusia and only 8 patients 16% ; identified the correct bitter taste. When tested with the sour taste, 45 BMS patients 90% ; reported the correct taste, 2 4% ; ageusia and 3 6% ; had hypogeusia. When pepper sauce tabasco ; was applied to the tongue, all BMS patients, relived their experiences of oral burning; and the subseguent application of saccharose neutralized, only for some patients, the oral burning. Pepper sauce tabasco ; induced a strongly burning sensation, to be compared to a strong burn, from 28 patients 56% ; of the Study Group in comparison to 10 of the control subjects 20% ; . After use of pepper sauce tabasco ; , saccharose reduced oral burning in 8 BMS patients 16% ; and abolished oral burning in 2 patients 4% ; in comparison to controls, where there was a reduction of burning in 32 persons 65% ; and abolition of oral burning in 3 person 5% ; . This confirm a prevalence of trigeminal sensations in comparison to taste receptors in the patients of the Study Group. No controls showed abnormalities of thyroid function or.
A key issue for assessing options to improve the structure of public health is whether the AHS structure should be retained, and if so, whether there should be any amalgamations of AHSs metropolitan and or rural ; . The main alternative is to have one central body directly administering the 223 public hospitals. Proponents of the AHS management structure cite several advantages over a centralised model including: geographically based AHSs result in managements having a closer affinity for conditions and the faster resolution of any problems in local facilities the scale of the AHS structure is large enough to exploit economies of scale, yet small enough to avoid diseconomies likely under a centralist model the practicalities of monitoring the performance and budget compliance of 223 public hospitals are difficult for one central body and domperidone.

With an isolated choroid plexus cyst, testing is indicated only if serum screening results are abnormal or the patient will be older than 32 years at delivery. Cervical infections with chlamydia or herpes are contraindications to transcervical CVS. Counseling for amniocentesis in a twin pregnancy in women age 33 years is indicated because the midtrimester risk of fetal Down syndrome is approximately the same as for that of a singleton pregnancy at age 35 years. Nondirective counseling before genetic amniocentesis does not require a patient to commit to pregnancy termination if the result is abnormal and domperidone.
